Shakespeare had a great quote: “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances….” (As You Like It – Act 2)
Do we have any control over what happens to us and what we do, or are we merely just actors (players), taking part in a play, or life, that someone else is writing and directing for us?
The answer to the above question is: yes – we do have control over our lives, if we want to.
But how many of us have written a script for our lives but have not published it – not done anything with it? Let our goals and dreams slip away? We then condemn ourselves to be bit players in life. Someone (or it feels like someone) else is the writer and director.
How many of us take control and write the script of our lives and then become the director? Then the lead actor, rather than a bit player?
The first challenge is to write the script. What do I mean by the script? It is our goals and aspirations. What we want to do in life, to get out of life. How many have written their goals and dreams down? How many have a dream list in their heads, with the words someday appended to them?
What stops us writing the script for our life? Normally it is fear. Fear of failure, of rejection, ridicule, even fear of the unknown. The list of fears goes on.
But once we gather the courage and begin to write our scripts, then we can free ourselves to imagine……To see our lives as then can be.
But it is not enough to just write the script. We then need to make it into a real life play. A play in which we are the main character. Or we may chose to play a supporting role. Either way, we choose which role we want to play.
Once we have our script and determined our role, we then become the director of our play. Working out our script. Translating it into real life. Seeing our script come to life.
