So, who’s really in charge – really? Who’s in charge of your mind? Are you really in charge?
Who’s in charge when you have that extra bite, the cigarette, that drink, or sit down in front of TV instead of doing some exercise? Or avoiding that unpleasant feeling or emotion?
We like to think that we have control of our minds. But do we? Do we really?
I would argue that we are not. That our beliefs control us. Our impulses, our thoughts, actions (or lack of action!) are subtly in control.
So what is a belief? The dictionary defines it as: “A belief is a state of mind, an acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof.”
Where do our belief reside – deep in our subconscious. In that part of the brain that runs on automatic.
But how did we get out beliefs?
Well we started accumulating them pretty much soon after birth. We took what our parents said and how they said it plus what an authority figure said, something we said to ourselves in an highly charged moment, and stored it in our subconscious.
Over time, we hear or see the same thing again and again and assume it must be true. Slowly our beliefs build up, little by little, bit by bit. Unknown to us that we have built a view of the world and how both it and we operate in it.
So can beliefs be changed? Yes they can! This is where the power of hypnosis comes in. Using it to provide better outcomes for ourselves.
Until next time
