Say It With Words

Words….A key part of hypnosis.  Why?

words

We use words to describe many things in our lives.  They also have a power over us.  They conjure up images, feelings, memories. Though we all use  the same words, the meanings we ascribe to them may be different, subtly different, but different enough so that you and I will get a different picture in our minds though we may have heard the same words.  Take “the glistening lake” as an example.

What image(s) and memories did the words “glistening lake” bring to your mind? I saw a lake surrounded by trees and the water glistening off the ripples playing on the surface.  A light wind was blowing and I was standing in the cool mountain water.

What was your image?

You see.  Though we have used the same words, our memories are very different.  As I mentioned above, the meanings we ascribe to the words are based on our backgrounds, what we have seen, where we have grown up, how the people around us used the words, the context they were used in.  The list goes on.

So where am I going with this?

You see, the scripts and words that we use to program and reprogram our mind are made up of words.  The images the words invoke in our minds are strong.  We therefore need to choose the right words that reflect the outcome that we seek.

Words that are positive and uplifting. Words that invoke positive images and emotions in us. These are important when using self-hypnosis.

Also, choose the words you use daily to yourself wisely….use ones that build you up, not hold you back or know you down…

I have been on a number of Vipassana retreats. I found these of great value. I also have an interest in self-hypnosis and how it can help with self improvement. My blog is on topics associated with personal change, hypnosis, Vipassana and Huna
