Before I talk about where I am going, I thought I’d chase down some thoughts about images. In my last post I talked about energy flows where attention goes, now is the moment of power and mindfulness. I also remembered that it was important to focus on what I wanted, not what I didn’t want. You see, focusing on the don’t want you will only get more of the same.
While I was trying to work out where I want to go and what I want, I was reminded that the mind thinks in images!!! Stop for a moment and recall a happy event from your past. You get an image right! Well, that is also true of thoughts. Our thoughts also come with images! A bit like a movie in the mind or still images.
Images are powerful things! Here’s an example. Think about an ice-cream cone. Most will be able to do this. Now how many started thinking beyond just the cone? Was there a story with it? Was the ice-cream starting to melt and run down the cone onto your hand? Who thought about the calories? Who thought about a childhood memory? What about the flavours? And the list goes on!
Thoughts are also tied to images. When our minds run off on a stream of thought and get really involved in them, images are right there. They may be stills, or a movie. With them come the sensations we remember.
An image comes with other associations, other thoughts. So if we want to change our thinking, we need to change more than just our thoughts. We also need to change the images.
So if we want something, the trick is to start focusing and visualising or imagining that what we want. That future. Be it ourselves or our circumstances.
Hypnosis works with positive images. Going over these positive images regularly starts to reprogram the brain (whole different story).
