It’s interesting how we find deeper meaning and insights by going back over teachings (in books, on audio, in a movie or notes from a seminar). It may be weeks or months or even years later that we pick up that book or listen to that discourse again. But in the intervening period we have changed. We have matured a little more, we are ready to see a deeper meaning – that was there all the time, but was hidden to us the first time we reviewed it.
Well that is how I feel listening again to the discourses from the 10 day Vipassana retreat. Listening and re-listening to some sections have provided not only greater insight, but I swear that there is some new stuff in there too!. 🙂
Well, in fact there is no new stuff, only that I am able to take in more of the messages! More of what was actually said at the time! This is also something that Dan Millman said on a tape I have of his..
Sooo, what is the learning?
Don’t press eject and throw away the information after listening to it or reading it just once. Press rewind and go back over it. Get that book that inspired you before off the shelf and re-read it. High light the sections that resonate with you. listen to that CD or MP3 again.
With our busy lives today, it is easy to put something aside that inspired us and then get distracted and not go back to it. Leaving it sitting on the shelf or in the CD rack or in our MP3 playlist.
