As I work my way through the Paul McKenna hypnosis CD, I have been wondering what exactly “inside” me is being changed? What am I changing? We are told that hypnosis & self-hypnosis work directly on the sub-conscious. OK – so why the sub-conscious & not the conscious? So I decided to little bit of digging….
From my research it seems that the sub-conscious is responsible for a number of things. Least of which is it holds our “operating paradigm”. In other words our beliefs and habits. The other interesting thing that I found out is that imagination has a huge impact on our sub-conscious.
Try this little experiment. Close your eyes and imaging yourself walking down a dark alley or walking along the edge of a tall building or cliff…..As you are imaging these images – what happening in your body? How are you feeling? Whats your heart doing? Ar your muscles tight? Now close your eyes again and image yourself sitting but a waterfall. The sun is shinning and the birds are singing in the trees. Or think of a pleasant memory. Now feel how your body feels? Is it relaxed? Are you calmer?
Well that’s one of the secrets of hypnosis and self hypnosis. Hypnosis works directly on the sub-conscious. The scripts (I’ll talk about scripts in another post) that are used, typically get you to image yourself in the state that you are trying to obtain. In my case, full of confidence and more successful.
By working with the imagination hypnosis is able to change the “operating paradigm” or your unconscious habits and beliefs. Hypnosis gets the ‘subject’ into a trance which allows direct access to the sub-conscious.
Quite smart really.
Well that’s it for me tonight. Until next time
